Australia’s 2013 vintage expected to be of high quality in most regions
Australia’s 2013 vintage is expected to be of a very high quality with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon standouts across most regions and Pinot Noir, Grenache, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Semillon of excellent quality across some regions, according to the National Vintage Review – 2013 report, released by Wine Australia today.
The report, which provides a regional summary of the 2013 vintage from 49 of Australia’s wine regions, showed that generally the vintage avoidedmajor events such as disease or flooding and benefited from water availability. This led to an increase in tonnages.
Wine Australia’s General Manager, Market Development, James Gosper, said the quality of the vintage was a positive for the wine community and wine lovers alike.
“Feedback from most wine regions is that the quality of the 2013 vintage is expected to be high and comparable to the 2012 vintage, which was considered to be excellent,” Mr Gosper said.
“The lack of widespread major natural events and good water availability have contributed to the quality of the vintage.
“Generally, it was an early and condensed harvest in most regions due to a dry, hot summer.
“The expected quality of the vintage will be an important selling point to take to our influential wine trade, media and consumers around the world through our global program of trade and consumer events, masterclasses, consumer promotions, retail promotions and educational initiatives.”
Prepared by Wine Australia, the National Vintage Review – 2013 highlights the prevailing vintage conditions as well as quality indications for key varieties in 49 wine regions. Wine Australia would like to acknowledge the regional wine associations and wineries for their valuable input.
