WCA is excited be partner with The University of Adelaide to give wine industry professionals the opportunity to attend a masterclass presented by Prof. Steve Charters MW, Professor of Wine Marketing and a researcher at the Burgundy School of Business in Dijon PLUS the chance for a New Year catch up with some SA wine peeps (scroll down for all the details)

Part 1 – THE MASTERCLASS (SOLD OUT)

Only a beverage or something more? Exploring the cultural context of wine.

Most of the discourse about wine today is around what it tastes like or how to make or sell it. Each of these aspects of wine, however, are bound up in cultural dimensions which are often less closely examined. Tasting is constrained by social norms of ‘taste’, viticulture by historical expectations, and so on. This masterclass intends to explore how the image of wine, and its production and distribution is shaped by more than the notion of what is ‘good’ or quality. Prof. Charters will start by looking at the evolution of the role of Champagne in shaping French culture, and he will show what lessons we can learn about it in the Australian context, particularly in relation to the ‘aesthetic’ vs. ‘cultural’ wine dichotomy.

Time: 4.30pm – 5.30pm

Location: The University of Adelaide, Barr Smith South 1062, North Terrace Campus Adelaide
