Taxing times: what’s happening with the WET
Tuesday 21 June 2016
Presented by Mathew Brittingham and Michael Butler from Finlaysons Lawyers
It’s an unfortunate reality that tax is very much front of mind for most in the wine industry, and the Federal Government stirred things up in the May Budget with its proposals to make changes to the way the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) works and who is entitled to a rebate. Controversy has followed.
With this in mind, it was a perfect time to ask the tax specialists from Finlaysons Lawyers to provide an update on WET and the WET rebate (where it has come from, where it is currently, and where it is going) and to highlight a number of technical issues they see coming up regularly in practice.
